Gardens Meet Everyone Where They Are, And We All Thrive!

Learning never stops at the Robert Gordon Garden.

What many may see as a failure in gardening, Educators see it as an opportunity to teach our students about problem-solving, science, math, and life skills. “What happens when we stop learning in the summer?”  Was the question posed to Mrs, Perez and Mrs. Mewad during one of the gardening meets. “What would happen to our garden if we stopped tending to it?” This got our young researchers things and the conversation led to some amazing answers. In the end, the students decided to take a risk. “Let’s not tend to the garden and see what happens?”  The teachers discussed possibilities and all were curious to see the outcome. The students were reminded that a little reading, writing, and problem-solving each day go a long way. Later this led to conversations about not reading in the summer, not eating healthy food or drinking water, and what this can do to us, thus a connection between our life and plants was made. The task was voted on and below see the pictures of our “risk” which we call freedom to make mistakes and learn in the process. Enjoy your Summer! El aprendizaje nunca se detiene en el Jardín de Robert Gordon .

Lo que muchos pueden ver como un fracaso en la jardinería, los educadores lo ven como una oportunidad para enseñar a nuestros estudiantes sobre resolución de problemas, ciencias, matemáticas y habilidades para la vida. “¿Qué sucede cuando dejamos de aprender en el verano?” ¿Fue la pregunta que le hicieron a la Sra. Pérez y la Sra. Meawad durante una de las reuniones de jardinería? “¿Qué pasaría con nuestro jardín si dejamos de cuidarlo?” Esto hizo que nuestros jóvenes investigadores obtuvieron nuevas ideas y la conversación condujo a algunas respuestas sorprendentes. Al final, los estudiantes decidieron arriesgarse. "¿No cuidemos el jardín y veamos qué pasa?" Los maestros discutieron las posibilidades y todos tenían curiosidad por ver el resultado. Se les recordó a los estudiantes que un poco de lectura, escritura y resolución de problemas todos los días es muy útil. Más tarde, esto llevó a conversaciones sobre no leer en el verano, no comer alimentos saludables o beber agua y lo que esto puede hacernos, al final lo lindo fue que los estudiantes hicieron una conexión entre nuestra vida y las plantas.
